What happens without ongoing maintenance

Software that stops receiving updates does not stay the same — it quietly gets worse. Security vulnerabilities discovered after release never get patched. Mailbox providers change their spam-filtering rules and authentication requirements regularly (DMARC enforcement tightening, new bulk-sender requirements from Gmail and Yahoo are recent examples), and a platform that is not maintained falls out of compliance without anyone noticing until deliverability quietly drops.

Questions to ask before trusting a "lifetime maintenance" claim

• Does it cover security patches, feature updates, or both?
• Is there a track record of actually shipping updates, or is it a new promise?
• What happens to compatibility when major email standards change?
• Is deliverability tuning included, or only bug fixes?

A vendor that can point to a real update history is a very different proposition from one making the promise for the first time.

A simple way to evaluate a vendor's track record

Ask how many major updates they have shipped in the past year and whether any addressed a real deliverability-rule change (like a major mailbox provider's new bulk-sender requirements) — a concrete example beats a general promise of "lifetime support."

A vendor with a public changelog or release notes page is showing you their update cadence directly, which is more convincing than any general promise about ongoing maintenance.
